The 2024 National Self-Direction Conference

Applied Self-Direction hosts the only national conference dedicated to self-direction. The National Self-Direction Conference brings together state and federal government, managed care organizations, Financial Management Services entities, people and families who self-direct, support brokers, and other key stakeholders from across the country to collaborate on one goal: advancing self-direction. Practical, focused sessions and ample networking opportunities offer attendees the opportunity to share and learn about best practices and innovations to expand and enhance self-direction.

The 2024 National Self-Direction Conference will be held Thursday, March 14th, and Friday, March 15th, at the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, Maryland.

Lisa Liberatore of Luv Michael Southampton, NY will present the 4 homes that are up and running for her son Michael and many others. They have a unique relationship with the Greek Orthodox Church of Southampton, and Lisa will also talk about her upcoming September 9, 2024 Housing Conference.

  • Paul Egan of Binghamton, NY will present A Home of My Own which has been running for almost 5 years now for their son Ryan and two friends.

  • Cindy Romanowski of Buffalo will present Marcus House.

  • Jackie Ceonzo will present Joey in the City, where Joe Ceonzo and his friends are living in two apartments.

  • Mike Sweeney of Endeavor 21+ and Karma House will host the call and discuss the 10 houses that have been purchased by families surrounding the Threefold Campus/Farm in Rockland County, NY. The community is “Camphill Inspired”, but it has a unique evolving model in the Self-Directed world.

OPWDD - Autism Spectrum Disorders Advisory Board

he next public meeting of the Autism Spectrum Disorders Advisory Board will be held in person at the Empire State Plaza, Meeting Room 1 in Albany and virtually via WebEx on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 12 pm- 2 pm.

The Autism Spectrum Disorders Advisory Board was created in November of 2016 to help provide guidance and information to New York policymakers, individuals with an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis (ASD), and families seeking reliable information regarding available services and supports. The Members of the Board are tasked with several important duties including: studying and reviewing the effectiveness of supports and services currently being provided to people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorders; identifying legislative and regulatory activity which may be required to improve existing service systems that support people diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders; identifying methods for improving interagency coordination of services and maximizing the impact and effectiveness of services and agency functions; and, other matters as deemed appropriate by the Board.

The annual Joint Legislative & Advocacy Forum provides access to information on the 2024-25 Executive Budget proposal, upcoming legislation, advocacy strategies, and opportunities to engage leadership in the Senate and Assembly. 

Parents and family members, self-advocates, direct support professionals, not-for-profit agencies and other stakeholders will hear from presenters across a wide range of timely topics, reflecting the importance for us to be a strong voice in Albany this year and beyond.
